iGURU!’s – Weekly Review – 15th December 2019 INTRODUCTION ‘HOORAY HOORAY - FOR DEMOCRACY & ELECTIONS?’ Well – to be perfectly honest - I’ll have to admit – I am rather bored with it all - since, whilst a lot ‘appears’ to be happening – there is really nothing ‘new’ going on at all. It’s the same boring ‘show of old politics’ rehashed - a political fare, which I am now finding quite indigestible - and it seems it will remain that way, for as long as we are removed from the true purpose of democratic politics. A primary purpose, is to provide a civil and safe manner, where one can freely hold opinions and views and a forum for meaningful debate, discussion - and also a place for decision making, which should reflect a ‘consensus,’ of what the people want. Reflect their values and their will, through leaders who serve the people. The rules of the ‘political game,’ should reinforce this purpose and thus also reinforce the elements of a ‘civil society.’ The political system should also, be able to hold members of the political/power elite to account, if these standards are not met. In a previous review, I discussed these and related ideas in the ‘matrix illusion of politics’ – here is the link. ‘HUMPTY DUMPTY’S LAW’ About three and half years ago in the UK - the ‘Brexit Sitcom’ began – when David Cameron, a former Prime Minister put forward the idea of a referendum to leave the EU – since then, the country has been seriously divided – and it seems, that there can be no peace as the country’s political system is broken - and like ‘Humpty Dumpty’ - the pieces cannot be put back together again. So what to do? - When Humpty’s Law is in play – the solution is simple, first the mess must be swept away – But who is to wield the broom! ‘NEW POLITICS IN AN OLD PARADIGM’ Britain’s current politics and its current divide between left and right, is old politics breaking out with a vengeance! To this inherent conflict has been added, Brexit, political incompetence and dangerous self-interest - or ‘Adventurism.’ Whilst all may agree on the perilous nature of the problems facing the UK body politic – there are no suitable permutations, which can ensure the continuance and survival of the current political order. Let me give you some idea of this complexity. For example, Nigel Farage the ‘Supremo,’ behind much of the convulsions, that has wracked and all but destroyed the ‘old order’ and leader of the Brexit Party, did not win a single seat (read more here.) Many commentators, have as a consequence, written him off as a spent force. Given his surefootedness in the past, I cannot conceive that he would make such fundamental unforced errors and can therefore only assume, that far from being out of the ‘political game,’ he has a ‘cunning plan.’ Therefore look out for his newly formed and currently obscure ‘Reform Party,’ as being instrumental in the continuing future dismantling of the ‘Old Empire.’ This means that the game shall continue to be played out - but more violently – why? – Because the root problems are unresolved. If one adds all the various ‘problems’ currently facing the UK – Brexit, political division, social unrest and disorder, lack of investment in social infrastructure – and physical/material infrastructure - lack of support and funding in social projects, housing shortage – NHS challenges – and poverty. Considered separately, you would believe that the current system – the current paradigm, was able to deal with this situation. Has British society faced serious social problems in the past? Yes it has – one only has to look at the United Kingdom following the 2nd World War. The ‘fractured’ state and the ‘crumbling’ social environment faced by the generation following the 2nd World War is similar to what we are now facing. But there has been no recent major war of the Nations in Europe - and no bombs have been dropped on the UK – but the UK is in a political, social and economic state, similar to a country that has been at war. Those politicians, bureaucrats and elite after the 2nd World War, had the common sense and humanity to implement a social program, which was designed to assist and help the ordinary man and woman in society. It was these reforms that formed the basis of modern British society, with its social and welfare reform and which resulted in the NHS and massive social and housing projects - and the modern British welfare state (for related article - click here.) Such actions are not unique to the UK. ‘ACROSS THE POND’ In America following the Great Depression of the 1930s, there was president Roosevelt’s New Deal – it was famously said, that Roosevelt extorted this program of social development from the Bankers and other ruling elite of America, warning them that if they did not agree to these measures for reform and finance these projects - they would soon be the victims of social revolution and conflagration. Roosevelt himself, was a member of this elite, yet he was able to see the writing on the wall. It is a measure of statesmanship/womanship that an individual with prescience is able to see future consequences, which others have not seen or maybe, willfully choose to deny – as a consequence, such an individual often has to make decisions against his or her own personal, social class and other sectional interests, for the benefit of the ‘Commonwealth.’ Such is the nature of true leadership. If we want to know the reason why practically all modern political debate falls into ‘narrow straight jackets’ of ‘race’ (immigration), gender (transgender, politics, feminism) and class (left - right paradigm divide) - the answer is because, Western political and economic ideas/ideology (which form the principle ideas in global strategic affairs) - has currently failed to produce the statesmen and women (with the occasional exception,) who have had the vision, prescience, strength of mind, will, generosity, magnanimity – and common humanity to ‘lead’ the people – into the next evolutionary step of Human Consciousness. They have failed. This is probably why – on the run-up to voting day in Britain – many were stuck between a rock and a hard place – who do you vote for? – when both candidates seem juvenile and incompetent. I read an article titled – ‘British public stuck with two ‘dreadful’ candidates for prime minister, economist says’ - Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics is quoted as saying – “It is a terrible choice… …Two dreadful, inadequate, dissembling, incompetent politicians and one of them is definitely going to be prime minister.” According to President Erdoğan (President of Turkey) – Europe is facing a ‘serious leadership crisis’ (read more here) - he states - “When we come to Europe, there is now a serious crisis in leadership. I can’t say that any particular leader sets example.” Erdoğan is not the first person to comment about the poor quality of leadership, namely that there is a crisis when it comes to leadership. However there are many articles which extend the points Erdoğan makes, beyond Europe – some authors claim that there is a ‘global leadership deficit.’ I discussed this in a previous review – to read click here. (For other articles on the 'global leadership deficit' - click here - and here.) ‘ELECTED DICTATORSHIPS’ This week in the UK, we saw the general elections take place – between the Labour Party (represented by left-winger Jeremy Corbyn) and the Tories (represented by right-winger Boris Johnson) – the result? - pro-Brexit, Tory – Mr. Boris Johnson, secures his role at Number 10 Downing Street, as Prime Minister. At the very least, the general elections gave the people of the UK an opportunity for serious consideration and debate of the often tedious and drawn out - ‘Brexit Saga’ – tedious, because a mature polity should have by now, resolved the issues raised by it. The prolonged delay in its resolution, has turned UK politics into a global spectacle – UK politics like much else in a modern consumer society, has now become a second rate ‘soap opera.’ The seriousness of the issues confronting the nation, are presented in comical ‘puppet show,’ mode - for anyone who takes these issues seriously, with Johnson and Corbyn, during the election campaign, arguing points like children in a playground (for related article - click here) - and then there are the supporters of both camps, adopting the typical noisy ‘tribal stance,’ that is the familiar backdrop to what now passes for politics today, in most Western Democracies. The intolerance of opponents, the synthetic debates and of course, the supine media, who because of their general failure over the last couple of decades or so, to hold power to account and report truth, are now in the main, simply a catalyst to ignite the emotional hysteria of the people. All this has replaced informed political debate, discussion and reason. I ask - since when has it become the norm in society, that a difference of opinion is equated to hate? (for related article - click here.) Since when, has reasoned argument become anathema in a debate, or ‘consensus,’ not just a dirty word, but near impossible to achieve on practically anything of importance? Hence my ‘boredom’ – but don’t get me wrong - these are not trivial issues – for the stakes have never been higher. The election in the UK marked the demise of a political system, which currently operated in the UK. We can now expect, ‘Humpty’s Law,’ to come into effect. Of course there will still be much wrangling, shouting, histrionics and even dissent – but the ‘broom is about to be wielded!’ – For we shall be seeing the beginning of a ‘new politics’ – the problem however, is that it will remain within the ‘Old Paradigm.’ The UK like practically all of the political systems is entering a period of interregnum – a period of ‘New Politics,’ within an ‘Old Paradigm.’ So we shall see that for example in the UK - despite statements to the contrary by the victor Boris Johnson of ‘one nation conservatism,’ the divide shall continue – there is no room for ‘consensus’ – to the ‘victor of spoils’ – winner takes all! In general, political systems will continue to see the ascent of what is termed, ‘right wing’ politics - for how long, one cannot be specific, but its dangers are clear, one only has to look at modern European and South American political history to see the consequences of that, but that is not its signal failure, since if you are a ‘right winger,’ that consequence is what you wanted - presumably. No - it’s signal failure is that it cannot deliver what the people want which in a word is Peace! Political ideas have become stale, political tools blunted and ineffective, political systems are broken – but the flow of the ‘evolution of Human Consciousness continues, it can no longer be ‘shaped by these old methods – and any power elite, needs to know and understand the language of this ‘New Paradigm,’ in Consciousness, which is now dominating and shaping humanity. ‘POST ELECTION BLUES’ And now - for post election Blues! – In the UK there are already reports that the elections were ‘interfered with.’ In an article ‘Someone Interfered in the UK Election & It Wasn’t Russia’ the writer states that a smear campaign against Jeremy Corbyn “was driven by billionaire-controlled media outlets, along with intelligence and military agencies, as well as state media like the BBC” (read the article here.) Dominic Cummings, who is the advisor to the now UK Prime Minister, Mr. Boris Johnson – has also made comments regarding the UK electoral process stating - “the entire regulatory structure around national elections including data is really bad” and “wide open to abuse” (read the full article here.) How can it be that in a modern society bristling with technology, it seems impossible to have ‘fraud free elections?’ It’s not just in the UK that such allegations swirl. In the US, we are witnessing the politically and socially corrosive effects, of a people who have lost faith in their political structures and at its roots lay allegations of election interference (for related article - click here) - to broader ones of vote rigging (click here.) In such a political system it does not take much to descend into serious name calling, (click here) allegations of bribery, corruption and even treason! – what are people meant to think? - do? - how can such a political system survive? Back in the UK - since the announcement of the new UK Prime Minister - Anti-Johnson/Tory – left activists/protesters (‘Brexit Remainers’) have taken to the street to declare - “Boris Johnson: Not My Prime Minister” and “Defy Tory Rule” (read article here.) ‘BREXIT - GOODBYE DEAR EU’ (BAD IDEA?) Following the election results - Britain is now on its way to leave the EU on the 31st January 2020. Whilst Mr. Boris Johnson asks the ‘Brexit Remain’ voters to begin the ‘healing process’ (click here) and to “find closure” (click here) This is unlikely to happen - let’s face it – the quality of debate and behaviour to date hasn’t been inspiring and in all likelihood, it will be a resumption of politics as usual. However, Boris, now has a ‘big stick,’ ("speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far" - Theodore Rooslevelt) - as well as ‘Humpty’s broom.’ His allies have already prepared a ‘hitlist,’ of organisations, (BBC) and institutions (The House Of Lords, NHS) and perhaps even individuals (The Queen?) – ready to be ‘whacked!’ - The Supreme Court in particular - Beware, since that embarrassing ‘prorogation debacle’ - you know, the one in which you ruled Boris broke the law……… In short - if you thought it was bad before, then hold onto your seats as the UK now descends from ‘Chaos into Hell.’ How can one predict such startling things – simple - These are non-party political observations, these are observations made much deeper, observations on the very current nature and structure of UK politics – I am not Boris bashing - simply because given the current facts of UK political life, the results would be same with PM Jeremy Corbyn, or indeed any politician, who was not an exceptionally gifted statesman/woman. Unfortunately, such individuals are a rare commodity on the global stage (for related article - click here.) The truth is that, UK politics has already so rapidly declined – and is in such a mess! - It can therefore be predicted, that the wounds will not be healed and that the further chaotic descent shall continue.
